European youth, sustainability and sport:

Burriana hosts a new Erasmus+ exchange managed by Eurosport Experience

Burriana, March 15, 2025 – From March 8 to 15, the coastal town of Burriana hosted young participants from Italy and Malta as part of a new international exchange coordinated by Eurosport Experience and funded by the Erasmus+ programme.

The participants included students from the Sicilian education centre ESFO | Sant’Agata di Militello and members of a Maltese futsal club, both active in European youth mobility programmes. The main objective of the exchange was to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (2030 Agenda) through non-formal education, sports, and connection with the environment.

During their stay, participants followed a rich and diverse activity programme:

  • Watersports sessions at the Escola de la Mar of the Generalitat Valenciana, where they practiced kayaking, paddleboarding, and dinghy sailing, all with a focus on teamwork and marine sustainability.
  • A cultural visit to Valencia, including a tour of the City of Arts and Sciences, one of Europe’s most iconic scientific and cultural complexes.
  • They experienced the vibrant atmosphere of Las Fallas of Valencia, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, just days before the festival’s peak.
  • A hiking and nature route through the Clot de la Mare de Déu natural park in Burriana, with group dynamics focused on environmental education.
  • They also visited the Villarreal CF football stadium, one of Spain’s most iconic football venues, and spent a morning exploring the town of Burriana, learning about its local heritage and everyday life.
  • Cultural exchange and group-building activities, including international cuisine nights and themed presentations.

This initiative is part of a mobility network that has been active for over four years, with Eurosport Experience coordinating youth exchanges between schools, associations, and sports clubs across Europe. In 2025, the project expanded to launch a new model of exchanges specifically between clubs of the same sport — starting with kayak polo as the pilot discipline.

With its Mediterranean identity, rich natural surroundings, and strong commitment to youth and sport, Burriana is strengthening its position as a key location for Erasmus+ experiences in Europe.
